The Liberty Rock Trail is a very short hike within the village of Sloatsburg, with parking at the Sloatsburg Senior Center right off Route 17. This was a perfect hike after a late day at work and during sunset. This hike is only a few minutes from my office so did this short hike before leaving for home.
After parking at the trailhead, I noticed a large downed tree at the beginning of the hike. This tree had recently fallen during Tropical Storm Isaias and was blocking the beginning of the hike, requiring going around the fallen tree. I took the trail up, arriving at the top to see the sun setting. I turned around and took the same trail back down. I did notice that all the trail markers were removed and was wondering why. The trail is quite apparent, so it is easily followed despite the removal of the markers, but I did find it odd that they were no longer there.
