I had heard that a tenting area was put up at Silvermine Lake. I went to check them out and make a nice hike out the experience. We parked the car at the Silvermine Lake parking area, and took the woods road on the north side of the lake to the tents. We noticed several Tentrr tents along the lakefront area. Tentrr provides the tents and basic ameneties for camping without the need for a tent. We then crossed the outlet of the lake near the dam at Queensboro Brook, and took the unblazed Silvermine Road up the mountain.
Upon reaching the combined Appalachian Trail/Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail, we took this trail confluence steeply up the newly refurbished view to the first view at Black Mountain. This view looks over Silvermine Lake in the distance below. We then continued further to the main view along the side of the ridge which overlooks the southern portion of Harriman State Park as well as Haverstraw and the Hudson River. We then turned around and took the trail back down the mountain, and back down Silvremine road, and then bushwacked along the southern area of Silvermine Lake to connect to the Menomine Trail. This bushwack is difficult and not so easy to follow. We took the Menomine Trail to the parking area and back to our car.
