Lake Kanawauke to Hogencamp Mine to Lake Skanatati

The foliage season was beginning to really show, and this area with the lakes is beautiful this time of year. I had a funeral to attend later in the morning, so we had to make this hike shorter than usual. The weather was rainy, and we brought along raincoats, though it wasn't actually raining during the hike. Right before hiking as I was pulling into the parking lot, I noticed a small black bear that then crossed the road in front of me.

We parked the first car as Lake Skanatati, then drove together to Lake Kanwauke and parked in the parking lot. We walked along Kanawauke Road (County Route 106) west, crossing the bridge between Lake Kanawauke and Little Long Pond, and then going off on the unmarked Hogencamp Road. We walked north up Hogencamp Road to the Dunning Trail, and explored the old iron mine workings here for the Hogencamp Mine. We then took the Long Path towards Lake Skanatati, and then walking along the shore to the parking area where we had our other car parked.
